A variety of yoga styles to suit individual needs

One size does not suit all - similarly different yoga styles can be used to suit your varying needs - from day to day depending on your activities, and during different phases of life.  Sometimes a more gentle restorative approach is what is needed, other times a more challenging strength-building style is required.

HATHA YOGA

A breath-based combination of DYNAMIC FLOWS, VINYASA AND STATIC-HELD ASANAS to build strength and flexibility.  Using sun salutations, standing and floor-based postures, vinyasa flows to energise and connect mind to body.

I also offer a full core-based hatha class YOGA CORE which is aiming at 50% or more asanas which specifically target the core muscles. Strongly influenced by pilates-style classes, designed to build core strength that will facilitate achieving more challenging asanas which require that strength and flexibility.

YOGA CORE is a dynamic, yoga-inspired class designed to strengthen and tone the entire body with a special focus on the core. Through targeted yoga postures, mindful movement, and breathwork, this class helps build core stability, balance, and body awareness while enhancing posture and overall strength. Suitable for all levels, it offers a challenging yet accessible way to develop a strong, centred core. Props such as blocks and bands may be used to support the practice, and occasionally, light hand weights are offered as an option to deepen the toning effect where beneficial.

YIN YOGA

YIN YOGA offers a slow, grounding practice that gently guides you through mostly floor-based postures designed to open the body and quiet the mind. By holding poses for longer periods, we target the deep connective tissues and fascia—helping to improve mobility, release tension, and support the hydration of the body’s internal network. This practice invites stillness, self-awareness, and a meditative state, creating space for deep rest and inner connection.

MEDITATION

Asana practice leads naturally to meditation, and I can offer this as part of your yoga class or as a separate session.  Using pranayama breath techniques as well as gentle movement as a way to calm the mind, the student is gently guided to use various meditation techniques to reach that place of stillness of mind.

See my Events page for details of a 4-session series available on my YouTube channel.

Hatha Yoga

We use the breath as guide to slow down and find our centre. We then use a variety of sequences and postures to build strength and encourage flexibility. This practice can be energising or deeply relaxing depending on what is needed.
“Hatha” literally stands for “sun” and “moon” - this symbolises the bringing into balance the opposites such as hot/cold, light/dark, feminine and masculine energies.

I wrote an article for Health & Wellbeing Magazine, saying more about my yoga journey and why it is so important to me, you are welcome to read it :-)

YIN OR YANG - what's your flavour today?

YIN - Yin yoga works on the facia which is the layer that wraps around the entire muscle system - all postures are floor based, and we find the optimum position for our individual body-shapes using the support of blocks, bolsters, cushions. Deeply relaxing, best practiced without any prior warm-up exercises

YANG - Hatha yoga works with the breath, can be deeply energising and strengthening.  The breath drives the pace of the body movements to protect it as it strengthens and stretches the muscles. Great for stress-relief and wonderful partner to other exercise styles

Yin Yoga

A deeply nourishing practice that can be done at anytime - although most beneficial on "cold" muscles in order to reach the deeper layers of the body.

“Yin” refers to the Chinese Yin Yang term - you may be familiar with the black/white symbol. Yin energy is the soft, feminine side contrasting with Yang which is hard, masculine.
